LONG TERM CARE STAFF HELP RESIDENTS, FAMILIES ADJUST TO REMOTE VISITS

NPR profiled how several LTC providers are helping their residents and families adjust to new social distancing and shelter-in-place mandates. Whether it is helping get video conferencing software installed and running, holding a tablet for video chats, or accesting special grocery drop-off deliveries, staff tried to ease the transition for everybody involved. One family member said her parents inspired her: “They don’t call them the greatest generation for nothing,” she says. “They’re very good at being flexible and understanding, giving up a few things for the greater good.”

BALTIMORE RAVENS DONATE PONCHOS TO LOCAL LONG TERM CARE FACILITY

The Baltimore Ravens football team donated 3,000 ponchos to Lorien Health Services, a family-owned nursing home and assisted living company in the Baltimore area. The CDC released guidance saying ponchos are acceptable personal protective equipment when other supplies are not available. Lorien staff will use the ponchos when caring for non-COVID residents. COMMUNITY BAND DOESN’T LET CORONAVIRUS STOP THEM FROM ENTERTAINING FANS

A group of retiree friends who regularly played at health care providers in their community didn’t let social distancing get in the way of seeing their long-time fans. The “Bongo Kings” already worked out an outdoors staging setup with one long term care center in southern Alabama, and the band said they are working to expand. “It’s really important for them to be able  to vent some of this stuff and to have some fun,” said a member.
